Charts with Goal Line or Goal Range

Two sidebar switches allow you to display a demo goal line (target line) and/or a goal range (target range or target area) on most chart types. Locate chart templates dedicated to them using the GoalLine and GoalRange search keywords.

Goal Line

The goal line is always parallel to the X axis, of category values. This means for bar charts the goal line becomes vertical. The goal or target line is not displayed when the plot area is hidden, or when you show no data. The line itself, and the label, must stay behind the series, and may be partially or totally obstructed by the graph. This goal or target line may be also used as a calculated average or benchmark line. The line and its label may be styled, with a dash type, font, color and opacity.

Most chart types will display this demo goal line: bar charts, cartesian charts, financial and specialized charts. It is not displayed on palette charts, shapes (pie, pyramid etc), circular and radial charts (such as radar/polar and radial columns), activities and organizational charts.

Goal Line Known Issues

  • FusionCharts – the label adds a padding empty area on the right margin of the chart.
  • Syncfusion – no dash line style, label text centered in the middle.
  • Shield UI – no dash line style or alpha opacity for the line color.
  • Google Charts – no label yet, not for horizontal bar charts, points, grouped step area.
  • jqPlot – no label yet, not for horizontal bar charts, line always in front.

Goal Range

The goal range is always parallel to the X axis, of category values. This means for bar charts the goal range becomes vertical. The goal range may appear on the same chart with a goal line: we chose different demo values, so they cannot overlap. The goal or target zone is not displayed when the plot area is hidden, or when you show no data. The zone itself, and the label, must stay behind the series, and may be partially or totally obstructed by the graph. This goal or target area may be also used as a calculated average or benchmark zone. The area and its label may be styled, with a font, background and text color and opacity.

Most chart types will display this demo goal range: bar charts, cartesian charts, financial and specialized charts. It is not displayed on palette charts, shapes (pie, pyramid etc), circular and radial charts (such as radar/polar and radial columns), activities and organizational charts.
